| My coilover suspension from Ireland Engineering is going
on in the next couple of weeks (17.1.03), so there will be
more pics soon. My current combination of the uprated anti
roll bars (sway bars), 20 percent Jaymic springs and Spax
adjustable sport shocks didn't work too well (I was skimping
after paying for the engine!), especially at motorway speeds
- too twitchy and not really 'planted'. One Spax rear shock
also just exploded - piston sunscrewed from the top mount,
sunk into the body and blew it's oil all over the rear tyre,
which was nice.
The
above pic shows the Tii struts, e12 calipers and e21 vented
disk. Braided hoses are used throughout.

This pic shows the Ireland Engineering alloy bracket for the
VW sourced caliper. Due to my sub frame almost snapping in
half on the Cannonball Run (it rusted from the inside out)
I sourced a 2nd hand complete rear end for just £35.
I've had the trailing arms boxed Tii style and an extra brace
across the arms similar to the M Coupe trailing arms. I'm
just waiting on Jaymic to send adjustable brackets for the
inner trailing arm mount (it dials out negative camber when
you lower the car) before having it all powder coated and
put together.
Good shot of the adjustable Ireland 22mm bar, but more importantly
one side of the patch my fine Italian Soldari welded on in
order to get the car on the track at Imola (Cannonball Run).
It held up fine, although if you look carefully you'll see
the subframe kinks up a degree at the end, which can't have
done my suspension geometry any good!
Here's my fat arse trying out the new trolley jack to
discover the broken subframe in Italy.
Below are the latest pics of my strengthened trailing arms
- just leaves the coilover mount to be beefed up before powder
coating and fitting.

Overkill if anything, but hell, it's better than having them
weak!!
Right - how's this for a bloody cock up. In reinforcing
the arms the body shop have managed to completely fuck them
up, which obviously was only spotted once they'd been powder
coated and had the bearings and bushes installed.. Notice
the difference in width betwen the old and the new arms -
heat must have distorted the arms closer together.

And here's a pic of what prompted me to get the rear end done
anyway - a big hole!
